Inspiring Spaces: Kelly Wearstler’s Latest Hotel

Now, I may be behind on this one, but I first heard of the Proper Hotel via Kelly Wearstler’s Instagram. I was struck by her design and how much of a departure it is from some of her more well-known, extravagant residential and hotel interiors. Though the hotel’s public spaces and rooms are full of Wearstler signatures like oversized furniture, wild color palettes, and an abundance of pattern, the design of the hotel feels much more relatable and dare I say approachable than Wearstler’s usual mega-watt, mega-expensive spaces. Gone are the colorful marbles and furniture decorated with gemstones in favor of layers of granny patterns, floral wallpaper, 70s rec room vibes, and collected and eclectic artworks which all make for a striking design at the boutique hotel. Additional Proper properties are set to open in Downtown LA, Austin, and from the looks of it, Proper will be opening a Santa Monica location in early 2019. You can bet I’ll be there as soon as I can to hang out in a similarly inspiring space.
